Moscot Lemtosh (Verdict: Depp Worthy)

As you may have guessed, we love accessories. And when it comes to the most visible accessory, eyeglasses, we tend go over the top to find uber hot styles. So, when we were given the opportunity to sit down with Kenny Moscot, one of the fourth-generation Moscots running the highly-acclaimed family business, you can imagine our excitement.

We first learned about Moscot on a casual stroll down 6th Avenue in New York. We took note of their classic bright yellow sign, and were intrigued by the floods of people entering and exiting their second floor showroom. When we took a stroll through the showroom we were absolutely and positively amazed. Their styles were fresh and new, yet they had a classic flair. In a nutshell, we wanted to buy them out of every style because we couldn’t believe our eyes.

However, weeks became months, and while we kept Moscot in the back of our heads as a future review product, we could never decide when would be the right time. Did we want to review their frames in the summer, and discuss how their critically acclaimed frames can be converted to sunglasses for a fraction of the cost of designer glasses? Or, did we want to review them in the fall, during the “back to school rush,” and feature them as the prototypical academic accessory, that can make you look (Ivy) leagues above your educational standing? Well, summer and fall came and past, and we still didn’t review Moscot.

It actually wasn’t until we were watching some glitzy Hollywood TV show and noticed that Johnny Depp had unbelievably cool glasses, and that every shot of him, had him wearing one amazing color after another, that we committed ourselves to reviewing those glasses. Well, low and behold, Johnny wears nothing other than Moscot, and here you are reading our take on Johnny’s favorite frame, the Moscot Lemtosh.

Kenny Moscot (aka co-bossman) describes the Lemtosh as a “rounder, nerdier number [that] has served as the calling card for generations of creative, thoughtful, free spirited intellectuals and artistes.” He goes on to explain that, “Moscot Originals styles retain all of the authenticity of the frames that first made Moscot famous. The newly-made glasses are based on styles from the MOSCOT archives from the 30s, 40s, and 50s, retaining all of the authenticity of the frames right down to real glass lenses in the sunglasses and lens colors that precisely duplicate the true old school colors first fabricated by the company in the 1940s including cosmitan brown (camel brown), calibar green (traditional bottle green), and G-15 (a grey/green color first created in the 1930s for pilots).”
Ultimately, what we love about Moscot is that it’s a time-tested brand that is known to perform. Moscot frames are not outrageously expensive, because they never were designed to be out of the reach of the individual who needed high-quality glasses. They are designed to be worn and to be noticed. So, the next time that you’re looking for the perfect glasses, or maybe for the ideal sunglasses, make sure that you visit them on the web, or even better stop by one of their retail locations. We guarantee that once you Moscot your face, you’ll never consider donning anything else!

It's not a MOSCOT but old TART OPTICAL ENTERPRISES glasses that Depp usually wears.
Jimmy Dean also had them on.
No.they are not.Eveybody almost knows Johnny wears Tart Arnel.no doubt about it.
Its true Depp wears Tart Arnels, that is why they still go for $500 for frames. They are classic. Moscots are similar, but you can tell they are tarts because of the unique keyhole nose piece and the tart emblem on the sides.
These Moscots look good and are a lot better price than the Arnels.
However I have tried to contact Moscot to place an order but they won't answer my question about shipping costs!
Great glasses bad service!!!
Moscots are NOT a good copy of the originals because the trims, that is the pins (or rivets) and diamond shaped decorations are stuck on just for show & not part of the hinges. These hinges are heat sunk as on all mass produced eyewear. In comparison Tart Arnel have recessed hinges fixed by rivets - a expensive & precise procedure. There are very few frame makers who do this today.
Check out Eye Glass Boy online. They do fantastic arnel copies and are much cheaper!!
